Reading through my own words on what Women's Views on News is all about got me thinking about the history of women in journalism.
A quick search on Google and I came across HistoryBuff.com – where American history begins. There I found 3 articles, by Editor Rick Brown, which tell the stories of female journalists from the 1700s, the 1890s and the 1930s. Here are the links:
- Anne Royall: The First Female Journalist in America?
In the late 1700s she edited & published a newspaper. - The Emergence of Females as Professional Journalists
From Nellie Bly in the 1890s to the turn of the century. - Evelyn Shuler: Reporter in the Thick of the News
From racketeers to murder trials, she covered them all.
If you know of any similar stories regarding female journalist in other countries, I'd love to hear from you. Click on the 'Comments' link below to leave any information you'd like to share.
