Chinese women seek lessons in femininity

IPS News reports on the popularity of courses in China on "women and etiquette". According to one popular speaker, the reason lies in China's recent history. Being a successful career woman involved trying to appear as "manly" as possible, since any clothing or accessory that highlighted feminity could be dismissed as "petty bourgeois". However, since the introduction of economic reforms which opened the country up to Western fashion trends and tastes, women are turning to classes on etiquette and grooming for advice on how to rediscover their feminine side. Progress indeed!
