Speaking out about AIDS in Zimbabwe

There are some people who are inspiring and Evelyn Mashamba is one of them. An outspoken gender and AIDS activist in Zimbabwe, pills she is the mistress of the understatement when she says that living with HIV for the past 10 years has not been a bed of roses.

But she insists to IRIN that the challenges she faces just make her stronger and give her the courage to demystify the pandemic. She explains her philosophy thus: "I shout; I speak out on issues concerning women living with HIV. This is what drives me out of bed every day … My dream is to establish a special clinic and wellness centre for women living with HIV … only then will I slow down."
