Cuts to childcare lead to job losses in the US
Although more than willing to work, some women in America cannot go out to earn a paycheck because they cannot afford the cost of childcare, according to the New York Times.
Take Alexandria Wallace from Arizona as a good example. This 22-year-old trained hair stylist lost her job last month when her babysitter let her down once too often.
The state-run subsidised childcare programme has been slashed as part of Arizona's and Ms Wallace's three-year-old daughter is now on a waiting list of nearly 11,000 other eligible children.
