NFL players ‘imported’ women during tour
I'll freely confess to knowing very little about sport, and even less about US sport, but even I know enough to understand that these kinds of stories seem to emerge all too often on both sides of the pond.
USA today reports on a current furore over allegations that National Football League players 'imported' women to hotels they were staying in during a 2007 tour. The implication of course, is that such practices are common place and former player Marcellus Wiley estimates that only 20% of players are loyal to wives and girlfriends.
There seems to be such a culture of hyper-masculinity around certain sports that perhaps we shouldn't be surprised when these problems keep occurring, but perhaps if women's sports were taken more seriously then women themselves would be seen less as accessories to a lifestyle.
