African woman activist says international criminal court is only hope of justice

As the first review conference of the International Criminal Court (ICC) takes stock of its achievements, IPS news interviews Wangari Maathai, the first African woman to win the Nobel peace prize, and a strong defender of the court. 

The founder of The Green Belt Movement, which works to curtail the devastating effects of deforestation and desertification, called the ICC the only hope for many who have been denied justice in Africa and around the world.
