Coinciding with the Dalai Lama's 75th birthday, medicine the Tibetan Women's Association have organised mock elections to encourage exiled Tibetan diaspora to use their vote in next year's real elections.

Participation in today's 'Kalon Tripa Mass Mock Election' is expected in 40 regions across 6 countries. The majority of participating regions are in India and Nepal, here although the exercise has also been organised in the US, Canada, Switzerland and in London.

The TWA are working to ensure a non-partisan process and are not endorsing any candidate. The TWA say the aim is to increase awareness of the importance of the vote and "call on our Tibetan brothers and sisters around the world to engage, educate and participate in the election of our leaders".
