England looks to ‘thrilling encounter’ with Australia in rugby World Cup

England Women’s Rugby Coach, Gary Street is looking forward to a ‘thrilling encounter’ with Australia in the World Cup semi-final on Wednesday, reports The Telegraph.

Following England’s convincing 37-10 victory over the US on Sunday, the team are now preparing for a semi-final showdown. England have never faced Australia before, and Gary Street is preparing the team for what is sure to be a difficult match against the heavyweight team.

“We have never played Australia before so there is a sense of the unknown here,” said Street. “They won the Rugby World Cup sevens last year so we know they are used to the big stage.”

In the match on Sunday, the England team, who have already defeated Ireland and Kazakhstan, scored tries by Danielle Waterman (2), Katherine Merchant, Emily Scarratt, Amber Penrith and Maggie Alphonsi.

“The girls really showed their determination and physicality,” added Street. “The forwards were tremendous and set the platform, and the backs capitalised.”

Fingers crossed for the England women on Wednesday, and you can watch the match live online at Women’s RWC at 20.15.

  1. I’ve never seen a women’s rugby match. I will try to make time to watch it, should be interesting.

  2. Me either! I’ve seen women’s hockey before and loved it, but I’m really looking forward to catching the rugby – I’m even planning to race back from London for it. We can compare notes on Thursday!!

  3. Sounds good Sarah!
