Canada’s governor-general, Michaelle Jean, who has been a champion of woman’s rights, will be hosting  a conference on women’s empowerment in the last month of her term which ends on 1 October.

In a written statement Michaelle Jean declared; “the struggle for equality is not just a woman’s struggle; it is the struggle of every person who demands respect, justice and dignity .I strongly believe that we have everything to gain when we give women the means to change their lives for the better. Empower women and you will see a decrease in poverty, illiteracy, illness and violence.”

The conference, “Together for Women’ Security”, will be held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa and will last two days. The conference aims to bring together women’s rights activists from across Canada.
