Indian women given training to avoid trafficking

Summary of story from The Times of India, November 14, 2011

In the Indian district of Sundergarh, 35 women and girls have been given training on how to avoid trafficking. The practice is believed to be especially prevalent in the tribally-dominated area.

The training initiative, organised by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), aimed to improve the women’s skills  and confidence, helping them to find employment.

The three-month programme was supported by the Maa Ghar Foundation, a leading NGO in the area, and comprised both physical and classroom training.

One of the successful trainees, Priya Singh, was full of praise for the scheme: “We have all got a new lease of life after this training programme.  We are thankful to CRPF and Maa Ghar for giving us this opportunity and helping us to stand on our own feet,” she said.
