My career in journalism began on a local paper, the Camden New Journal, a unique independent local newspaper with an old style editor who taught me all about writing ‘proper intros not ******** ’novels’ and always succeeded in asking me if I had asked the one question that I hadn’t.

Working in such a varied borough like Camden I learnt a lot about community activism, the power of determined people to effect change and what a strange breed local councillors can be.

My next job was at Press Gazette, a magazine for journalists, where I started as broadcast reporter before moving on to become features editor and lastly deputy editor.

I’ve been freelance for the past two years and work some of my time at the Frontline Club, where I am programme editor, responsible for the events and writing for the website.

I have a huge interest in world affairs, am a BBC World Service addict and am fascinated by stories of how people worldwide are seeking to bring change to their lives.

I am interested in how the media industry covers stories about women and also by women’s activism and the way they are using social media to tell their own stories and to bring about change.
