After many years working in the arts and learning about the Middle East, I chose to combine the two by researching for a PhD in the History of Art Department at Birkbeck, University of London.
My thesis examines modern and contemporary art produced by women in Iran during the post revolutionary period, with a particular focus on how art is used to critique social and political issues.
Since most of my time is now focused on the Middle East, I have inevitably been drawn towards addressing the treatment of women and the status of their rights across the region.
Like many of the writers on this site, I am often infuriated by the media’s biased opinions and misinformed analyses, especially when it comes to women and Islam.
For me, joining the debate on how women are affected in this world seems an important priority, so I’m very pleased to join the Women’s Views on News team.
Aside from working and studying I love listening to music from around the world, using old cameras and being by the sea.
