Female Afgan MP in opposition to Taliban deal
Malalai Joya, a member of the Afgan parliament lives in hiding in Kabul. Though the Afgan government is considering a deal with the Taliban, Joya’s stance is firm, “democracy never comes with occupation and it never comes from sworn enemies of democracy, women’s rights and human rights.”
She is opposed to the any cooperation with Taliban leadership and also wants to see the departure of foreign troops, she sees both as enemies according to a story in The National.
The MP has been reprimanded for her views in the past and will not be standing for reelection as she feels the vote will be rigged. Instead she plans to keep up her fight for democracy and human rights by giving lectures abroad and carrying on with her campaigning at home.
