Women’s Views on News (WVoN) is a women’s news, opinions and current affairs site, operating on a not-for-profit basis.
Originally founded in January 2010 by Alison Clarke, our writers are all volunteers, who write news, features and opinion pieces exclusively about women.
In 2010, according to the Global Media Monitoring Project, only 16 per cent of all global news stories were specifically about women and just 24 per cent of the people heard or read about in the news are women.
Women are also under-represented in the creation of news – as journalists, broadcasters and commentators.
Our aim is to redress the gender imbalance in global news reporting by telling the stories that the mainstream press ignores, while at the same time encouraging more feminist writers to become news reporters and editors.
