Jackie Gregory, co-editor

My first taste of journalism came when working as a receptionist in a radio station, and I was suddenly hauled before the microphone as their fashion correspondent. I had neither expertise or dress-sense but loved writing the weekly features, far more than presenting them.

Having got ink on my fingers, I moved on to a newspaper as a trainee and stayed in regional newsrooms for many years, working my way through various roles from reporting, feature writing, sub-editing and editing.

I loved it, but not enough to sit there for another two decades – counting my days in hourly deadlines – so jumped at the chance to become a senior lecturer in journalism at Staffordshire University, where I am today.

It is exciting to be involved with Women’s Views On News as it challenges mainstream media to give a broader picture of women’s lives globally, and a real privilege to play a small part in its development.
