Margaret Hodge in the running to chair public accounts select committee
Margaret Hodge, MP for Barking, has been nominated for the post of chair of the influential public accounts committee which scrutinises all public spending, according to the Guardian.
She will compete for the role against another minister from the Blair era, Hugh Bayley, both of whom have been nominated by 15 other MPs.
Out of 15 committees, only three women have been nominated for the coveted post of chair of a select committee. The other two are:
- Louise Ellman for the Transport Select Committee
- Karen Buck for the Work and Pensions Select Committee
