French riot police caught on camera dragging away women and babies
French Police have been criticised by human right groups after being captured on video dragging immigrant women along the ground during an eviction last week.
Sky News reports that around 60 protesters, mainly African women, were removed from an encampment in the suburbs of Paris. One visibly pregnant woman was left unconscious and another image clearly shows the police dragging a woman on the ground with a baby strapped to her back.
MRAP, a leading human rights group, said people in the video had all been expelled from previous housing, but not given any long-term solutions.
The French police issued a statement saying that: 'An eviction is never a simple procedure when there is resistance involved on behalf of those being evicted.'
Sure, but does that warrant the level of force used where a pregnant woman is unconscious, along with mothers and their babies being dragged along the ground?
