The Associated Press report that at least 43 people have been killed, including women and children, during continuing clashes in a refugee camp in Darfur.

Although it is not yet clear what caused the violence, different groups were involved in the clashes and rebel groups have blamed government allied troops.

These clashes are just the most recent in a legacy of violence dating back to 2003, when a groups of desert dwellers rose up to accuse the government of neglecting desert communities and peoples. The conflict has led to a mass refugee movement of almost 3 million fleeing their homes, while up to 300,000 people are reported to have died in the violence.

Although the unrest is reported to have declined more recently, there have been increasing signs of violence since the President, Omar el-Bashir, won another term in recent elections, despite being charged with war crimes and genocide by the international criminal court in the Hague.
