Women drivers stress over parking

Parking-related worries during Christmas are one of the most important reasons for festive stress, a study has found.

The survey by UK-based company Autoquake.com found women were more stressed about parking than men.

The used-car e-tailer asked 3,000 drivers to rate the Christmas-time parking situation on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the most stressful.

Motorists in general hate being awarded a penalty parking ticket, scoring an average of 7.2 in the poll. Irritation from other people’s parking came second with 6.7, followed by finding a free parking space, which scored 6.5.

Men and women displayed different attitudes towards the parking problems, however, with women more concerned about things like searching for a free space.  Smaller parking spaces were given 6.8 by women and 5.5 by men.

CEO Dermot Halpin, of Autoquake, said: ‘Christmas shopping can be a test of patience. From heavy traffic, to full car parks, to the worry of picking up a penalty ticket if you’re a few minutes late getting back to the car, it’s a festive headache many of us could do without.’
