Summary of story from News24, 18 January 2011

A police reservist’s decision to end her relationship with a man led to a shootout at a busy Cape Town city centre store.

The reservist was on duty at the Mr Price store in Cape Town when her ex-partner arrived and tried to wrestle her gun from her, and all because she had decided to pack her bags and leave his flat.

During the struggle three shots were fired, hitting the man in the chest and another going through a window.

Provincial Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz commended the reservist for her “swift action”.  He said that a probe would be conducted into the incident.
