The sister of a girl who was murdered in a suspected honour killing in 2004 has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in a robbery at her family home.

Alisha Ahmed, 22, faces the charge after a burglary at the family home in Warrington, on August 25.

Three men broke into the Ahmeds’ house and tied up  Alisha Ahmed’s mother, Farzana, and four of her children. Cash and jewellery worth £33,000 was taken in the raid.

The decomposed remains of Alisha’s sister, Shafilea Ahmed, were discovered in Cumbria in February 2004. South Cumbria coroner Ian Smith later recorded a verdict of unlawful killing, saying he believed that the teenager was probably murdered.

Iftikhar Ahmed and his wife were arrested and questioned by police following the death of  their daughter. The Crown Prosecution Service concluded there was insufficient evidence and the couple was not charged.

Both parents have always vigorously denied any involvement in Shafilea’s death.
