Tea Party responds to the State of the Union address
Summary of stories from The Washington Post, 25.1.11, and Guardian, 26.1.11.
Minnesota Republican Representative, Michele Bachmann, took aim at President Barack Obama last night after his State of the Union address.
The address focused on jobs, the economy and innovation and called for greater bipartisanship.
Bachmann, however, criticized Obama for what she called an “unprecedented explosion of government spending and debt.”
She also charged the current administration with failing to deliver on its promise to keep unemployment under eight per cent and called to repeal “ObamaCare.”
Bachmann, whose remarks were streamed live on CNN, is a leader of the rightwing Tea Party movement and is seen as a possible presidential candidate in 2012.
