Even Oprah’s OWN have no female directors on its board

Summary of story from SFGate, June 17, 2011

According to a Bloomberg analysis, only 16% of the companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index have women on their boards.

The number is down from 16.6 percent last year, spotlighting the challenge of making boards more diverse.

Forty-seven of the companies, or 9.4 percent of the S&P 500, had no female directors at all. That includes Discovery Communications, co-owner of Oprah Winfrey’s OWN cable channel.
