Canada: women’s ice hockey given $2 million

A woman from Calgary was so inspired by her mother’s love for ice hockey that she made a $2-million donation to support women’s hockey in Canada.

The donation, viagra 100mg made by philanthropist Joan Snyder, was announced at a news conference on Thursday by WinSport Canada, the sport developing group based in Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

Joan Snyder grew up idolizing her mother, Phoebe, who had a passion for hockey that began in the 1920s, and has also supported women’s hockey at the University of Calgary.

This private donation will give female hockey players priority access to one of the four rinks in the newly-created $231 million Athletic and Ice Complex at COP.

The new home to women’s hockey in Canada will be named the Joan Snyder Rink in recognition of the benefactor.

“I am now blessed to be in a position where I can provide opportunities for young women in Canada that my mother and I never had,” Ms Snyder told reporters.

“It is my sincere hope the Joan Snyder Rink will help continue to grow this great game for women in Canada.”

The rink will prioritise youth development programs and the Canadian National Women’s Team with won Olympic gold at the Vancouver Olympics.

The $2 million will also support WinSport Canada’s proposal to build a Canadian Winter Sport Institute in southern Alberta.

The president of WinSport Canada, Dan O’Neill, called it “a landmark day for the growth of women’s hockey in our country.”

The Athletic and Ice Complex will be the new home of Hockey Canada. The ice will be used for the development of women’s hockey internationally, by providing opportunities for extended training camps at reduced rates for countries with national women’s programs.

Hockey Canada will also be hosting the 2015 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Women’s Championships.

“Female hockey is one of the fastest growing areas of our nation’s game, and we cannot thank Joan enough for her investment,” commented Bob Nicholson, president and CEO of Hockey Canada.
