Woman arrested after failed armed US bank robberies

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) has arrested Francis Smith, for sale 23, for charges including one attempted armed robbery and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

On Tuesday, July 19th at approximately 1:15 p.m, an individual stopped at the door of a bank in Beech Island, South Carolina, pulled a bandana over her face, put sunglasses on.

She drew a pistol from her pocket before attempting to open the door, which was locked. The suspect then casually walked away.

ACSO deputies responded and searched the immediate area, but were unable to locate the individual. Local businesses were alerted.

At 3:10 pm, ACSO received a call from a second bank in Beech Island stating that an individual matching the description was about to enter.

Employees stayed on the phone with dispatchers until deputies arrived and took Smith into custody.

Smith was later questioned about and confessed to a previous armed robbery that on June 30.
