Summary of article from the Guardian, August 26, 2011

Condoleezza Rice’s second autobiography ‘No Higher Honour’ will be in the shops this November.

Its publishers have promised “her [Rice’s] unique perspective on the most consequential political, diplomatic and security issues of the Bush administration”.

Rice was America’s first female national security adviser between 2001 and 2004, becoming US secretary of state in 2005.

Her first autobiography ‘Extraordinary, Ordinary People: A Memoir of Family’ was published last year, providing an account of her younger years.

The memoir received a lukewarm response with the New York Times commenting: “Reading it, from the perspective of ideas and intellect, is like watching a Toyota Prius compete in the Indianapolis 500 … [It] ends where most readers would probably rather it began.”

However, this time round, the publishers Simon & Schuster and Crown have said that the memoir will reveal “the behind-the-scenes manoeuvres that kept the world’s relationships with Iran, North Korea and Libya from collapsing into chaos”, and taking the reader “into secret negotiating rooms where the fates of Israel, the Palestinian Authority and Lebanon often hung in the balance”.

Rice was one of George W. Bush’s ‘closest confidantes’. His memoir entitled ‘Decision Points’ published last year had little to reveal.

Whether or not one of his ‘closest confidantes’ goes a step further remains to be seen.
