Amanda Knox begs court to acquit her of murder

Summary of story from Reuters, October 3, 2011

American student Amanda Knox today begged an Italian court to acquit her of murdering her British roommate during a brutal erotic game.

She told the court: “I did not do the things they say I did. I did not kill, rape or steal.  I was not there.

“I want to go home. I want to go back to my life. I do not want to be punished or deprived of my life for something I did not do, because I am innocent.”

The girl from Seattle and her Italian boyfriend of the time, Raffaele Sollecito, are appealing against a 2009 verdict, when they were found guilty of murdering Meredith Kercher, a Leeds University student, during a drug-fuelled sexual assault.

Knox has been in prison for four years.

A verdict is expected after 8pm (7pm British  time).
