Increase in female drug dealers and traffickers in the Philippines

Summary of story from, October 3, 2011

Drug dealing in the Philippines has become the work of women as well as men, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

PDEA director general Jose S. Gutierrez Jr, said today that from January to October 2011, arrests of women for drug offences made up 13.3 per cent of total arrests.

Gutierrez explained the reason for increasing women dealers and traffickers: “Because women are less prone to suspicion by law enforcers, drug syndicates have exploited this inherent characteristic.”
