Internet predator jailed for sexually grooming five girls

Summary of story from The Leicester Mercury, October 4, 2011

A 25-year-old man who posed as a teenager on the internet and sexually groomed under-aged girls has been jailed for five years.

John David Lawson, of Leicester, England, targeted five girls between the age of 12 and 15, and met up with one victim and made sexual advances towards her.

He sent them sexually-explicit messages and texts and tried to persuade them to expose themselves on web cams.

After meeting the 15-year-old he was arrested by police and banned from using Facebook but he continued to re-offend under a false identity.

Lawson admitted to sexually grooming the girls between July 2010 and May of this year. He was banned from working with youngsters below the age of 18 and will be put on a sex offenders’ register for life.

He was also made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order, restricting his contact with young girls and allowing the authorities to monitor his future computer use.
