Summary of story from The Independent, October 20, 2011

A student was crushed to death and at least eight other people were injured in a stampede at a UK nightclub in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Nabila Nanfuka, aged 22,  was a third-year student at the University of Northampton.  According to her family she had attended the two previous “Wickedest Wickedest” nights at the Lava & Ignite nightclub without problems.

The crush happened after an announcement was made that people should make their way to the exits as the coaches in which many of the attendees had travelled were leaving.   Panic ensued and was exacerbated when the fire alarm went off shortly afterwards.

It is believed that over 1,300 people were in the venue at the time.  In an attempt to establish what happened, police are investigating  why the fire alarm was set off and also whether over-crowding was an issue.
