The British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG) and the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) are jointly developing information for patients and the public on the surgical removal of a retropubic mesh sling and the surgical removal of a transobturator mesh sling or single incision mini-sling.

This information is being developed with the support of NHS England and the Mesh Oversight Group and follows an interim recommendation made by the Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Review in December 2019.

It will be used to aid discussion between doctors and patients who are considering the surgical removal of mesh slings for urinary incontinence, ensuring that patients are fully informed of all options available to them and feel able to make an informed decision about their own care.

As part of the development process, BSUG and BAUS are keen to consult with those for whom the information is being produced, patients and the public, to ensure the information is suitable, accessible and developed to the best standard before it is finalised and published.

Finding out from the people for whom the information is designed – patients and the public – what they think is vital part of the process when developing patient information; it helps make sure the information is suitable to their needs before it is published.
