Standard reports that Suit Supply has been asked to remove the images from West London store

Further to the stories (here and here) on WVoN about the pornographic advert campaign by Dutch company Suit Supply, the London Evening Standard reports that the company has been asked to remove the images from its shop in Westfield, a shopping centre in west London.

This follows a concerted campaign over the last two days by WVoN co-editors and readers in the form of letters, e-mails and telephone calls to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), Consumer Direct (CD), Trading Standards in Kensington and Chelsea as well as Westfield itself.

Although it seems that we’ve made progress (we can’t confirm the Standard’s story as we haven’t heard back from Westfield ourselves) we need to keep up the pressure on Suit Supply.

Trading Standards have advised that we can report the images to the police who enforce the Obscene Publications Act; and to our members of parliament asking that they review the remit of consumer bodies like the ASA and CD, neither of whom currently have the power to take action.

Companies like Suit Supply need to understand that they don’t operate in a vacuum. These images have an impact on us all and it’s not a positive one.

Thanks to everyone for their support on this.

Fantastic result if it is true. Let me know if I can do anything.

Just had an email from Westfield saying they were asking Suit Supply to take down the posters in its window and store.

    • Thanks for letting us know Vicki. A few of us have had these e-mails which is great news. Next we need to get them out of the other stores and then off the website. Onwards and upwards!
