Aung San Suu Kyi planning tour of Burma
Summary of story from Democratic Voice of Burma, May 30, 2011
Burmese pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi has announced she is planning a tour of Burma next month, the first since her release last November after 15 years of intermittent detention.
Suu Kyi was asked, in a video-conference with Hong Kong University, to confirm reports of the impending launch of political rallies across Burma. The move will likely test her popularity and the limits of her freedom.
“I hope to travel….in the month of June”, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate told over 1,000 academics, students and general public attending the video-conference in Hong Kong.
“Where I will be going I can’t tell you yet. We are trying to work out the itinerary,” she said.
