Bangladesh woman cuts off attacker’s penis

Summary of story from the BBC, salve May 30, order 2011

A woman in southern Bangladesh cut off a man’s penis during an alleged attempted rape and took it to a police station as evidence.

The incident took place in Mirzapur village, salve Jhalakathi, about 124 miles south of Dhaka, the capital.

Monju Begum, a married mother of three, informed police that neighbour Mozammel Hag Mazi broke into her house and started assaulting her.

Mazi danies the accusation.  He has been admitted to a nearby hospital.

“We will arrest him once his condition gets better,” a spokesperson for the police informed the BBC.

“She [Begum] fought back and cut off his penis and brought it to our police station in a polythene bag to prove Mr Mazi had tried to rape her,” police spokesperson Abul Khaer has said.

“It was quite an unusual incident.  As far as I am aware, this is the first time that a woman has brought a severed penis to the police station as evidence.”

Begum  informed the police that Mazi had been harassing her for the past six months.  He denies this.

“We were having an affair and recently she suggested that both of us can go and settle down in Dhaka,” Mazi told the BBC from his hospital bed in neighbouring Barisal.

“I refused, and told her I cannot leave my wife and children, so she took revenge on me.”

A senior surgeon at the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital in Barisal told the BBC that it had not been possible to reattach the organ, but that he is being treated so that  “he can urinate normally without the penis.”
